Sub Assulin leads Manchester City reserves to a 4-2 win at Man United

Manchester United reserves 2 – Manchester City reserves 4 (Manchester Senior Cup, February 9, 2012) United scored after 17 minutes when a comedy a collision between City keeper Eirik Johansen and defender Reece Wabara gifted Jesse Lingard the opener. The Blues were level four minutes after the break when Harry Bunn scored at the second attempt after seeing his spot-kick – awarded for Michael Keane’s handling offence – saved by Tomasz Kuszczak. A terrific flowing move, on the hour, involving William Keane and Joshua King, concluded with Larnell Cole restoring United’s lead, but City were soon back on terms through substitute Gai Assulin. Five minutes later, and a thunderous long-range shot from Omar Elabdellaoui gave City the lead for the first time and then the Blues sealed victory in the last minute when Jordi Hiwula grabbed their fourth goal after taking Assulin’s pass.

FA Cup: Boro bow out to Sessegnon’s ET winner for Sunderland

Middlesbrough 1 – Sunderland 2 (AET) (FA Cup, February 7, 2012) Middlesbrough fell behind minutes before the interval as Jack Colback found the net with a goal from the edge of the penalty box to the top left corner of the goal. Boro pulled level early in the second half through new signing Lukas Jutkiewicz. The match was forced in to extra time, but the Black Cats’ superiority came through in the 113th minute as Stephane Sessegnon bagged the winner.

Late Liam Feeney cracker guides Millwall past Southampton in the FA Cup

Southampton 2 – Millwall 3 (February 7, 2012) Liam Trotter had put the Lions ahead on 17 but Adam Lallana equalised for the home side ten minutes before the break. Rickie Lambert looked to have won it on 77 but two minutes later Millwall came back to 2-2 through a Dany N’Guessan header. Which left the stage for Liam Feeney to win the match with a quality curler on 92.

Cat invasion one of the few highlights as Spurs draw 0-0 at Liverpool

Liverpool 0 – Tottenham 0 (Premier League, February 6, 2012) (Alternative highlights & Extended highlights.) One of the highlights of the first 15 minutes was the cat that invaded the Anfield the pitch into Brad Friedel’s area, holding up the game for a few seconds. Probably the best chance of a tight first half fell to Jay Spearing who flashed a shot just wide. First half highlights. Late on in the second half, Gareth Bale spurned a great chance to win the match for Spurs and the returning Luis Suarez had a close range header saved by Friedel.

What. A. Comeback! Chelsea 3 – Manchester United 3

Chelsea 3 – Manchester United 3 (Premier League, February 5, 2012) (MOTD highlights.) United felt aggrieved in the 10th minute as a Cahill challenge on Danny Welbeck went unpunished. The Pensioners took the lead in the 35th minute as Daniel Sturridge ripped Evra to shreds in the left back position before seeing his effort on target deflect off De Gea and then Jonny Evans before nestling in the net. Chelsea went 2-up twenty-four seconds into the second half as a delicious cross from Torres was spanked home on the volley by the superb Juan Mata. Amazingly it was 3-nil to Chelsea in the 50th as a Mata free-kick was headed (or shouldered) home by David Luiz via a Ferdinand deflection. United got a lifeline in the 57th minute through a fabulous penalty from Wayne Rooney after Sturridge took out Evra in the box. Manchester United made it a one-goal-game in the 69th minute as Wayne Rooney sent Cech the wrong way with his second penalty of the game after Ivanovic brings down Welbeck in box. An all-time great Premier League match was confirmed in the 84th minute as Ryan Giggs picked out Javier Hernandez who headed United level 3-3.

The Magpies took the lead on the half hour when Demba Ba netted his 16th goal in his last 16 Premier League appearances after a brave (and match-ending) tackle from Taylor in the Villa box. Villa levelled in the fourth minute of first half injury time as Robbie Keane met an N’Zogbia cross with close-range volley. Twenty minutes from time Newcastle retook the lead as a Gutierrez cross was thundered home by a debut beauty from Papiss Demba Cisse.

Adam Johnson had won the penalty with a shocking dive. twenty minutes later it was 2-0 as Chris Baird put through his own net from a Johnson cross. On 72 Edin Dzeko sealed the win after excellent work by Sergio Aguero.

RVP (3), The Ox (2), Arteta & Henry score as Arsenal smash Blackburn 7-1

Arsenal 7 – Blackburn 1 (Premier League, February 4th, 2012) (Longer highlights & MOTD highlights.) It took just 2 minutes for Arsenal to take the lead, Robin Van Persie sneaking in at the far post to poach home. Blackburn equalised with their first real attack, Morten Gamst Pedersen striking a perfect free-kick over the Arsenal wall. Arsenal regained the lead with a freakish carbon copy of the first, RVP again latching onto a squared assist from Walcott. Arsenal got the third that their dominance deserved, RVP playing a perfect reverse through ball into the path of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, leaving the Ox to calmly round the keeper and score his first ever Premier League goal. Gael Givet then received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle that left Blackburn a man down. Mikel Arteta made it 4 with a low shot soon after the break, before Oxlade-Chamberlain made it 5, Walcott getting his hat-trick of assists with the pass. Robin Van Persie completed his hat-trick with his side’s sixth, Coquellin setting him up with a nice bit of skill on the wing. Thierry Henry rounded things off with the seventh goal to add to his collection.
