Wolves 1 – West Brom 5 (Premier League, February 12, 2012) (Alternative highlights & MOTD highlights.) The Baggies were first to strike in the 34th minute when a Peter Odemwingie shot from the edge of the box cut across Hennessey and settled in the far corner. Wolves levelled in stoppage time in the first half as Steven Fletcher started and finished a move that began from a throw-in to get Molineux up on their feet. West Brom retook the lead in the 65th as Jonas Olsson latched on to a poor clearance and saw his shot squirm through Hennessey’s fingers. Wolves’ misery was compounded when Peter Odemwingie picked up the scraps from an Olsson corner to fire home number three in the 78th. Wolves’ humiliation reached new depths in the final seven minutes as Keith Andrews punished his former club with a shot from the D after Morrison provided the cut-back for 4-1, and Morrison then squared the ball for Peter Odemwingie to complete his hat-trick in the 87th.

Zambia 0 – Ivory Coast 0 (Pens. 8-7) (African Cup of Nations final, February 12, 2012) (Extended highlights, including post-match celebrations and trophy lifting.) 34-year-old Copper Bullets’ defender Joseph Musonda was reduced to tears in the 10th minute when injury forced him off the pitch in the biggest match of his career. The Ivorians won a penalty in the 68th minute when Gervinho was shoved in the back by a couple of Zambia players, but Didier Drogba skied the spot-kick over the bar to the relief of all Zambian fans. After 120 goalless minutes the final went to penalties where, after 14 consecutive converted penalties Kolo Toure and then Rainford Kalaba both missed, Gervinho missed the crucial Ivorian penalty before Stoppila Sunzu scored the historic winning penalty for Zambia.

Real Madrid 4 – Levante 2 (La Liga, February 12, 2012) (Longer highlights.) Los Blancos conceded early doors against Levante as a free-kick was headed in at the back stick by Gustavo Daniel Cabral. The visitors’ advantage melted away at the end of the first half as they lost Iborra for a handball in the box and Cristiano Ronaldo rubbed salt in the wound by scoring from the spot. Early in the second half Cristiano Ronaldo headed in a Higuain cross for his 33rd goal in 33 appearances this season. Cristiano Ronaldo capped a sublime performance in 57th when the Portugeezer scored a big dipper from 30-yards to seal his umpteenth career hat-trick. Almost immediately Levante scored themselves as Aroune Kone scored with a towering header to pull one back for 10-men Levante. In the 66th Real were 4-2 up as Karim Benzema bagged a beauty with a curler to restore Madrid’s 2-goal cushion.

Valencia 4 – Sporting Gijon 0 (La Liga, February 12, 2012) Sofiane Feghouli struck a stunning volley and Jonas scored twice in added time as Valencia thumped struggling Sporting Gijon 4-0.

Villarreal 3 – Granada 1 (La Liga, February 12, 2012) Villarreal took the lead after 16 minutes when Cani played in Marco Ruben who fired a powerful effort into the top corner. Granada levelled the match after 50 minutes when Inigo Lopez connected with a Martins cross to head his side back into the match. Villarreal did not have to wait long to regain the lead as Borja Valero ended a sweeping move with a cool finish. It was 3-1 after 73 minutes when the ball bounced in off Cesar to compound the away side’s misery.

Rayo Vallecano 2 – Getafe 0 (La Liga, February 12, 2012) Mich and Diego Costa were on target for Rayo.

Malaga 3 – Mallorca 1 (La Liga, February 12, 2012) Michael Pereira put the visitors ahead with the game less than four minutes old with a thunderous low free-kick, but Seba Fernandez equalised soon after for Malaga.  Jeremy Toulalan then put the hosts in front in the second half and Salomon Rondon extended his team’s advantage with 23 minutes remaining.

Catania 4 – Genoa 0 (Serie A, February 12, 2012) A Francesco Lodi penalty fired Catania 1-up against Genoa. The Sicilians doubled their lead through Pablo Cezar Barrientos soon after the interval, and Genoa looked like a team who had given up the cause when Pablo Cezar Barrientos hit in a third in the 52nd. Genoa’s misery was compounded as Gonzalo Bergessio made it 4-nil in the 62nd.

Lille 4 – Bordeaux 5 (Ligue 1, February 12, 2012) Bordeaux got off to a rip-roaring start as Nicolas Maurice-Belay netted after just two minutes. The fast start continued as David Rozehnal levelled for Lille in the 8th, but by the 17th the visitors had reasserted their lead as Ludovic Obraniak added number two. (First half goals) The contest seemed over when Nicolas Maurice-Belay and Yoan Gouffran extended Bordeaux’s lead to 4 – 1 by the hour, but Lille had other ideas. Eden Hazard reduced the deficit in the 65th, whilst the hosts pulled the match to 3-4 when Mathieu Debuchy netted with 15 minutes remaining. A pulsating match was concluded in injury time as attacker Nolan Roux levelled the match 4-4 to complete a stunning comeback. Amazingly there was still time for a late twist as deep into injury time Ludovic Obraniak grabbed his second of the game to earn Bordeauxa 5-4 away win.

On the half hour John Guidetti bagged a second from the penalty spot. Nicky Hofs halved the deficit for Vitesse, with another penalty. With 7 minutes to go John Guidetti won the match and completed his hat-trick.
