Women’s Olympics: Brazil and Germany will face off in the semis

Brazil 2 – Norway 1 (Women’s Olympics, August 15, 2008) Daniela’s header just before the break opened the scoring for Brazil, and Marta doubled the lead twelve minutes into the second half. Nordby set up a tense finish with a penalty but the South Americans held on to book a semi-final with the Germans.

Sweden 0 – Germany 2 (AET) (Women’s Olympics, August 15, 2008) Germany finally broke through in the 15th minute of extra time when Kerstin Garefrekes headed in from a corner. Simone Laudehr sealed their win with a well-taken goal following a one-two with five minutes left.

Iran 2 – Jordan 1 (WAFF final, August 15, 2008) A 25th minute spotkick from Hadi Aghlili and Kianoosh Rahmati’s super strike from 25-yards out, in the 85th minute, helped Iran retain the WAFF title. Jordan’s goal was scored by Amir Deeb in the 80th minute.
