The silver lining from last weekend’s North London derby from a Tottenham perspective was the outstanding contribution of Wilson Palacios in the centre of the park.
When the team-sheet was announced one name was glaringly absent from the Spurs starting XI, Harry Redknapp finding no room for one of the season’s star performers Didier Zoroka in midfield. Rather, ‘Arry opted for the pairing of Jenas and Palacios, and while the so-called England star failed to make any major impact on the game the marauding Honduran was never too far from the action.
Tackle after tackle, Palacios never stopped biting at the heels of his opponents. And unlike many ball-winning midfielders who have graced the White Hart Lane turf, once he got possession he showed the ability to turn defence into attack, either through a clinical pass to a teammate or with Palacios driving the ball upfield all on his own.
While it is too early to pass judgment, the signs look good for Tottenham that they have invested a wise £12 million.
