Insane images were filmed on Sunday in Italy after Carpi won a playoff against Lecce for the right to play in Serie B next season.
Carpi drew 1-1 draw at Lecce’s Stadio Via del Mare to earn them promotion on away goals, and the home ultras reacted badly to the club’s failure to go up a division once the fulltime whistle blew.
Furious with their players’ failure to win promotion, Lecce ultras stormed the pitch in an effort to attack their own squad after the match ended.
The Lecce players managed to avoid any violence having retreated to the dressing room before their supporters could get their hands on them, so the ultras turned their anger on the stewards who were trying to stop them breaking into the locker rooms in scenes of brutal and shameful violence.
According to reports, Lecce fans later burned a police SUV outside the stadium.
Footage of Lecce violence can be seen below.
