On his 40th birthday, time seems apt to turn back the clock for Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs to remember how it all began for the young Welshman in the Granada Schools Cup final in 1988.
Giggs, then known as Ryan Wilson, was a lanky left winger wearing the number six for Salford, as the Mancunian club took on Blackburn at Anfield back in the day.
The 14-year-old future Manchester United great starred in a 3-2 win over Blackburn claiming all three assists for the eventual victors.
After the match, which was commentated on by Martin Tyler, Giggs, who was also a Manchester United player at the time, gave a fresh-faced interview in the dressing room where the first signs of the forward’s career could be pinpointed.
