The final few minutes of Servette-Young Boys in Switzerland on Saturday were pulsating.
Having rallied from a goal-down earlier in the second half, Servette striker Ishmael Yartey worked superbly in tandem with left-back Roderick to register a 90th minute winner for the hosts.
Defeat left Young Boys hanging onto a Europa League place by their fingernails, and their frustrations bore out in a mad melee that exploded seconds before the full-time whistle.
Young Boys player Alexander Gonzalez chased down a thrown-in just in front of the Servette dug-out, but before getting to the ball the midfielder clashed with home coach Joao Carlos Pereira. That sparked Pereira’s number two, Joao Alves, into immediate action; the coach responded by tackling Gonzalez on the touchline, leaving the footballer sat on his arse with his arms flailing.
YB’s Emmanuel Mayuka inflamed matters when he came storming in to defend Gonzalez, and tensions worsened when coach Christian Gross also got stuck in.
The fall-out ended with Servette manager Joao Carlos Pereira spotted retreated into the stands.
