“The linesman had a disgusting performance. My players were robbed and now they have a disgusting feeling they don’t deserve. Someone asked me if it’s time to bring in technology. No, it’s just time to bring in referees and linesmen who know the rules. There is a real feeling of injustice in our dressing room.” – Roberto Martinez.
On such decisions are relegation and Champions League places decided.
Chelsea received a huge dose of good fortune on Saturday as both their goals against Wigan were clearly offside with the Latics and Roberto Martinez left absolutely furious.
The opener, scored by Branislav Ivanovic saw the Chelsea defender finish from close range, with just Ali Al Habsi between him and the goal when Raul Meireles crossed.
Almost all the Wigan players surrounded linesman Dave Bryan but the goal stood and despite a wonder strike from Mohamed Diame, Chelsea still sealed a massive win thanks to what appears to be another error late on from the same lino.
Juan Mata’s 92nd minute winner was nowhere near as clear cut as the Ivanovic goal but the Spaniard did appear to be offside at the far post when Fernando Torres shot on the volley.
