Bert Trautmann would be proud.
So often we complain about dirty divers, cheaters and downright softies, so it gives us immense pleasure to tell the tale of Lausanne goalie Fabio Coltorti.
Last weekend in Switzerland, second bottom Lausanne pulled off a major shock as the basement-dwellers won 3-1 at high-flying Young Boys. The Lausanne goals were scored by Matt Moussilou, Jocelyn Roux and Janick Kamber, but it wasn’t only the forwards who were the heroes of the hour.
Towards the end of the match, and with Lausanne having already made their three subs, visiting keeper Fabio Coltorti suffered a gruesome injury as his pinky-finger was dislocated at a stomach-turning right-angle. Rather than act like a baby though, Coltorti re-enacted Mel Gibson’s famous Lethal Weapon trick as he marched over to the sidelines to have his finger painfully popped back into place.
Needless to say, Coltorti saw out the 90 minutes.
