It is becoming a sorry tale, as Wayne Rooney was once again caught on camera kicking out at an opponent during Manchester United’s Club World Cup semi-final match with Gamba Osaka.
The incident arrived ten minutes from time as the Red Devils were cruising 5-1. Gary Neville chipped a pass through to Rooney tight on the right hand side, with the number 10 controlling instantly but then loosing the ball with his second touch.
Falling to the floor in an effort to retrieve possession, Rooney found himself in a scrap with Michihiro Yasuda for the loose ball. And Rooney was arguably guilty of showing too much commitment and passion at a time when a cool head was needed, as the forward kicked out in a reckless fashion at his opponent as his rage appeared to take hold. The ref, close to incident, quickly pulled out a card which, to Rooney’s fortune, was only yellow.
Rooney’s rap sheet is on the rise as his aggressive reputation continues to solidify. Recalling some of his previous, Rooney was sent off at the 2006 World Cup for his stamp on Ricardo Carvalho, and only last week faced accusations of kicking out against a serious of Aalborg players last week in the Champions League.
