Trying to digest how Barcelona lost at Chelsea, the Spanish press are today upset that the Catalans missed out on a penalty at Stamford Bridge.
The incident in question occurred in the 24th minute in a coming together between Gary Cahill and Andres Iniesta.
To say the Chelsea defender was outplayed was an understatement.
Having failed to cut out a pass to Iniesta on the Barca left hand side, Cahill was outfoxed by the Spanish playmaker courtesy of a Cryuff turn and nuts! combination. Iniesta’s rapid twinkle-toes advanced the number 8 inside the Blues box, at which point Cahill tugged at his opponent’s arm and Iniesta instantly hit the deck.
Iniesta appealed for a penalty; Felix Brych waved the protests away.
The non-penalty award stung Barcelona fans, who were left citing Issac Cuenca’s almost identical penalty award at Levante last weekend as precedent for why a spot-kick should have been given.
