Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson was spotted in the stands at the DFB Pokal final to watch Shinji Kagawa inspire Borussia Dortmund to an emphatic win over Bayern Munich, the transfer of the Japanese international to Manchester United seemed inevitable.
At 9am on Tuesday, the Premier League runners-up announced: “Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with both Borussia Dortmund and Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to the Club. The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit. These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June. Further details will be announced in due course.”
Manchester United are rumoured to have paid Borussia Dortmund £12 million up front for Shinji Kagawa, rising to £17 million depending on clauses.
A comparison is already doing the rounds between Kagawa and new Chelsea signing Eden Hazard:
