Video of the first confirmed fixed football match: Argentina v Bolivia (U20) in 2010

Europol.jog 0 Video of the first confirmed fixed football match: Argentina v Bolivia (U20) in 2010World football has been rocked today with the Europol announcement that over 680 matches in the past five years have been fixed or attempts made to manipulate them by a Singapore-based network.

Operation Veto has established that high profile matches were fixed at the “World Cup and European Championship qualification matches, two Uefa Champions League matches and several top-flight matches in European national leagues,” according to Rob Wainwright, director of Europol.

The bombshell announcement, in the UK at least, has concentrated on the revelation that a Champions League tie in England was fixed – leave your thoughts in the comments below if you know which one…

But, there was also an intriguing revelation from Europol today, that their investigation also covered the case of the Hungarian referee who fixed the Argentina-Bolivia Under-20 match in 2010.

Incredibly, the Hungarian referee awarded a penalty in the 20th minute of injury-time, which Argentina subsequently converted for a 1-0 win.

Europol presented this match during their evidence today. Video of the fixed match between Argentina and Bolivia is below. The penalty incident is at 2.50 on the video.
