The rights and wrongs of referee Mark Halsey’s decision to send off Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in Sunday afternoon’s clash with Manchester United, for some time.
Was Shelvey’s tackle any worse than Jonny Evans’? Should both players have been awarded a yellow card? And, if the Liverpool youngster saw red, how did David Luiz get away with one at the end of Chelsea’s victory over Stoke?
Incredibly, considering the events that preceded the match, Shelvey saved his ire until he was walking off the pitch to direct a conspiracy theory at Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Clearly believing it was the fault of Fergie, Shelvey walked off the Anfield turf screaming and pointing at the Manchester United boss, saying “That’s your fault.”
And, so angry was Shelvey, that a policeman had to step over to usher the bald-pated Liverpool midfielder down the tunnel. Video below.
