The Baggies may be sinking faster than the Titanic in the Premier League, but in the reserves their second string XI proved stubborn against a strong Chelsea team, walking away with a point for a 2-all clash on Monday night.
The Blues welcomed back Ricardo Carvalho from recent injury, with the Portuguese defender playing the first half, while Michael Mancienne, Franco Di Santo and Juliano Belletti were the other first-teamers picked amongst the usual array of youngsters.
It was Belletti who took the plaudits for the Blues, breaking the deadlock 13 minutes in, bursting into the box before rifling a shot into the roof of the net. After Juan Carlos Menseguez had brought West Brom level, it was Belletti again who lead Chelsea’s revival by winning the free-kick from which young Dutch forward Patrick van Aanholt curled in a well-placed free-kick.But back came the visitors after the break, Menseguez completing his brace for a share of the spoils.
