He may be 40-years-old but former Arsenal custodian Jens Lehmann continues to involve himself in bizarre incidents this season. His spats with ballboys have now become legendary and we suspect his actions in Stuttgart’s 3-1 win over Unirea Uziceni last night may now also receive a lot of attention.
Lehmann literally went to relieve himself during the encounter with the Romanian side and managed to go to the toilet by the side of the pitch, behind the advertising hoardings whilst the play was up the other end of the pitch.
When questioned after the match, Lehmann said “I was as nervous as never before,” to explain his actions. Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt praised the keeper for his improvisation: “It reminded me of the Tour de France. Sometimes you have no option but to go.”
Footage of Jens Lehmann taking a slash during the match can be seen here (and includes a clip of DeMarcus Beasley’s famous pee by the side of the pitch during the 2002 World Cup).
