An incredibly short article in today’s Daily Mirror read “Liverpool are trying to sign Barcelona teenager Gerard Deulofeu. Anfield scouts are tracking the 14-year-old.”
The rumours linking the Merseyside giants with a move for Deulofeu have been raging for some time, with the story building momentum as it is known that the youngster does not have a contract with Barcelona. At present, Deulofeu is registered in the Barca’s books but he has yet to sign a trainee contract with the Catalans.
Looking to cash in, Rafa Benitez has allegedly sent scouts to watch the youngster and they have returned to Anfield with high-praise. But the Reds look to have challengers for the teenager’s signature with Arsenal and Chelsea also believed to be in the market for Deulofeu, who can play on either wing or as a supporting striker.
Dubbed the “new Ronaldinho,” although visually a clear lookalike for Luka Modric, Gerard Deulofeu is a pacy, technical and elegant attacker who mainly operates on the left wing. Deulofeu, a natural right-footed player, is often found cutting in from the left onto his favoured foot and blessed with an arsenal of skills and a keen eye for goal, Deulofeu looks ot be one of the most promising budding youngsters in Spain.
Video evidence of Gerard Deulofeu can be seen here.
