When Arsenal fans first heard they were interested in a talented young midfielder from Borussia Dortmund, they were probably dreaming of Mario Gotze.

Instead, in typical Arsene Wenger style, the Borussia Dortmund starlet set for the Emirates, is unknown 19-year-old midfielder Thomas Eisfeld.

Gotze, of course, would cost significantly more than the £600,000 fee mooted for Eisfeld and the latter is unlikely to have any impact on the Arsenal first team this season as he is still making his way back from a serious knee injury sustained in 2009.

Eisfeld was undergoing a rigorous medical in London on Monday and has scored six goals in 12 games for Dortmund’s Under19s this season.
