When news broke on Sunday that Ever Banega had run over his own ankle and would be out for six months, there were plenty who struggled to believe the incredible story.

The Argentine midfielder somehow managed to forget about the hand brake on his car and his ankle was caught between the curb and a wheel to leave Banega sidelined for six months.

In Spain, there were plenty that doubted the veracity of the injury story, suggesting that Banega had in fact caused himself injury at a nightclub such is his reputation for clubs and women.

But, in the era of smartphones it was almost inevitable that there would be some video evidence and so it has proved as a Valencia fan pulling up to the same petrol station captured Banega sitting on the ground after suffering the bizarre injury.
