The big news in world football this Friday is that David Villa, Spain’s striking sensation, is now officially a Barcelona player who has been unveiled in his new number 7 shirt to a massive gathering at the Nou Camp.
Villa, 28-years-old, was transferred in a massive €40m (£35m) deal from Valencia, and he’ll now played alongside the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta next season.
At his presentation in a balmy Barca, Villa entertained the 35,000 fans who came to the stadium with a show of keepy-uppies before proclaiming “I’m very happy and proud to be here. Anybody would be happy to come to a club like this – as everybody says, this is the best team in the world. It’s always hard to score goals, but when you have players like Xavi, [Lionel] Messi, [Sergio] Busquets, [Seydou] Keita or Pedro [RodrÃguez] around you, it’s bound to be a little easier for a striker… [I’ll bring] hard work, humility and a desire to try to help the team be a little better. I’m really keen to get started here.”
