“It was really pleasing. First of all I would like to say that the senior lads had a fantastic attitude and were really good professionals. I think the young lads took a lot out of the game tonight.” – Arsenal reserve team boss Neil Banfield.
After a horror couple of results, as Arsenal lost at AC Milan and the Sunderland, Arsene Wenger appeared to become a little ruthless earlier this week by dropping the likes of Andrey Arshavin and Yossi Benayoun to the reserve side that played at Norwich on Tuesday night.
In fairness to “The Professor,” he undoubtedly got a response from Arshavin who claimed two, whilst Benayoun was also on the scoresheet along with forgotten man Chu-Young Park.
Despite his two-goal haul, which has surely seen the Russian play himself back into Wenger’s plans for Tottenham on Sunday, his former side Zenit have taken heart from his demotion to the reserves and are reportedly planning a loan bid.
Of the two goals scored by the Russian playmaker, the first is a must watch as it is a sensational chip into the far corner from a difficult angle.
As ever for the Arsenal reserve side, there were also some impressive displays from the youngsters as well, with Benik Afobe claiming the other goal and the likes of Carl Jenkinson and Nico Yennaris putting in impressive shifts.
The only downside was that Marouane Chamakh came off injured on the half hour in a new low for the Moroccan striker as an Arsenal player.
