It’s taken almost a week for a good quality video to come out, but we can now bring footage of Arsenal loanee Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ fantastic strike for Donny last weekend against Derby.
Playing in the Championship, Billy Sharp opened in the 14th minute from the penalty spot to put the hosts 1-up.
But it was Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ stunning second half finish which sealed Doncaster’s fourth straight league win over Derby since they returned to the second tier of English football. The Arsenal youngster nonchalantly collected a pass from James Chambers on the right hand side and, after cutting inside, he slammed an unstoppable left-foot howitzer past David Martin into the top corner from the edge of the area.
Rob Hulse gave the Rams hope on 74 minutes when he turned Elliott Ward and slotted a left foot shot out of the reach of Neil Sullivan and inside the far post. But it was 18-year-old midfielder Emmanuel Thomas’ goal – his third in three starts for Rovers – proved to be a very worthy match winner. The finish suggests that Arsene Wenger may yet have another precocious talent on his hands.
Highlights of the match, with Thomas’ goal at 55 seconds in, can be seen here.
