In recent weeks Barcelona have coped admirably without Victor Valdes and Lionel Messi.
Consecutive defeats to Ajax and Athletic Bilbao could though have been avoided with the two crucial members of Barcelona’s squad available.
Valdes has come a long way and it is no exaggeration to say the goalkeeper is one of Barcelona’s key players.
This season Valdes has looked super focused with his departure at the end of the season (most likely to Monaco) coming every closer.
And, this was recognised by Vicente del Bosque who picked Valdes in goal for Spain with whom he picked up the injury in the friendly defeat to South Africa in November.
On Christmas Day, Valdes posted a video on his Facebook page of a quality save in training and declared: “Great training session today December 25. I’m ready. Juanjo Thanks for always being by my side! Ahhh! … Merry Christmas to all!”
Barcelona’s next game is against Elche on January 5, 2014.
