So West Ham are back.
A year after dropping out of the Premier League, Sam Allardyce’s side negotiated an immediate return to the English top flight by beating Ian Holloway’s Blackpool 2-1 in the Championship playoff final.
Looking back at Saturday at Wembley, two clips drew plenty of attention.
First, there was Ricardo Vaz Te’s incredible backheel cross.
Just after the hour, after the Seasiders had levelled through Tom Ince, the Irons went looking for a second goal. One attack, however, broke down after West Ham’s Portuguese striker was caught offside, yet Vaz Te immediately got Hammers’ fans to forget the linesman’s raised flag by displaying a brilliant backheeled cross into the mixer.
From the skillful to the sneaky.
As injury time ticked over and with West Ham holding a narrow lead over the Tangerines, Rob Green was called into action as he the goalie shielded the ball over the touchline.
Once the ball crossed the white line though, Green received a light touch from opponent Matt Phillips, and the England goalie took that as his cue to perform a ridiculous dive that ate up a couple of extra seconds.
