A couple of superb stops have been recorded in the last couple of days of world football that deserve mention.

Tuesday night in Spain saw everyone’s new favourite team Mirandes lose 2-1 at home to Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of the Copa Del Rey semis.

The third tier minnows are far from out of the tie after Ander Lambarri halved the deficit in injury time, but it could have been so much better for the hosts had visiting keeper Gorka Iraizoz not come up with a stunning one-handed save to stop Cesar Caneda’s flying volley from a corner.

Wednesday in Egypt witnessed an equally impressive stop from Al Ahly custodian Sherif Ekramy.

Despite losing 3-1 away at Al Masry, the visiting keeping put on an impressive display as he made a flying one-handed save to turn aside a point-blank header from Abdul Salam Nagah.
