Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld opens the door to an Ajax return [Telegraaf]

Dutch daily Telegraaf have today published an exclusive interview with Tottenham centre-half Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld has been brilliant for Spurs in his first season at White Hart Lane, not only by giving stability at the heart of the defence alongside Jan Vertonghen, but also through his goals.

The 27-year-old Belgium international was on target in the 3-0 win over Man United last weekend, while he’s also popped up with league goals against Arsenal, West Ham and Man City this season.

Alderweireld began his career with Ajax, playing over 120 games for the Dutch powerhouse.

Telegraaf has today asked the defender whether he’d return to the Dutch capital one day, and Alderweireld said the following:

Ajax is a fantastic club and I would love to come back one day, but I won’t make any promises.

I spent most of my career at Ajax and am thankful for those years. I was extremely happy in Amsterdam.

Alderweireld is under contract at Tottenham until 2020.
