“He had a great move to get between the defenders, something that was worth the ticket price alone. He was one-on-one with me and instead of hitting it low, he tried to score the goal of the century, but I’m tall and so he had to chip it higher and went over the bar.” – Gianluigi Buffon.
The 0-0 draw between Bayern Munich and Juventus last night was short of much goal mouth action, so it should come as no surprise that Franck Ribery’s first half effort has now been hailed by Gianluigi Buffon.
The scar-faced French winger did superbly well to create the chance and had he chipped the Italian custodian we would now be hailing this as a goal of real class, although not nececessarily the “goal of the century.”
Ribery can at least console himself with the fact that he received a playful slap from a bear after failing to put his side into the lead.
Franck Ribery’s “Goal of the century” attempt can be seen on this video.
