While England was bulking up with the emergence of the tough-tackling hardmen like Larry Lloyd, Ron “Chopper” Harris and Norman Hunter, witnessing a new breed of hooligan football fan on the terraces, with Liverpool, Ipswich and Nottingham Forest leading the way on the field, the Bundesliga was swelling with an embarrassment of riches of home-grown talent including Gerd Muller, Klaus Fischer, Jupp Heynckes and the Kaiser, Franz Beckenbauer.
West Germany was the world’s footballing superpower during the 70s, capped by their 1974 World Cup triumph in front of their adoring home nation.
Celebrating the best goals from that period, the greatest Bundesliga goals from the 70s can be seen here.
In addition, the greatest Bundesliga goals from the 80s, including strikes from Jurgen Klinsmann, Pierre Littbarski, Thomas Hassler and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge can be seen here.
