There was a big night of lower league action on Wednesday and yet more drama at Swindon.
After manager Paolo Di Canio quit on Monday, Swindon assistant manager Fabrizio Piccareta took over the running of the first team for the clash with Tranmere Rovers.
Piccareta proceeded to secure an impressive 3-1 victory at Tranmere before resigning live on Sky Sports News in what turned out to be a fine piece of television.
He said: “After this game, this fantastic game that everyone has witnessed, I want to tell you that this is our last game as technical staff of this football club. I want to highlight one thing. This achievement that this fantastic team got tonight, so top of the league and this victory has a name, and a surname and that is Paolo Di Canio.”
Fabrizio Piccareta could well turn into a quiz question one day. After all he had a 100% record as Swindon boss and left them top of the league!
