The Dutch football calendar has a regular fixture which kicks off the New Year in the Netherlands.
Every year a team of former Dutch internationals get together in a traditional New Year’s game against an amateur team. This year the ex-pros turned out to face KHFC.
On Saturday the match took place, and the pros lost the encounter 4-3 to the amateurs. Nevertheless the star momnet of the match belonged to the big-named stars, and Pierre van Hooijdonk in particular.
Van Hooijdonk, now 43, showed that he still possesses plenty of his attacking nous as the ex-Nottingham Forest and Feyenoord forward curled home a wonder 35-yard free-kick into the top corner.
