One of the spiciest transfer rumours spreading like wildfire over the last few days has been suggestions that Tottenham could be primed to bring Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the Premier League in a cut-price deal from Real Madrid.
If the gossip is to be believed, which it almost certainly isn’t, Spurs fancy their chances at buying the 32-year-old Dutch striker for as little as £1.25m as the former United forward is now seen as surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu having missed the last seven months of football with a knee injury.
While the Lilywhites will be hoping that this deal proves more than hot air, in a recent interview with Real Madrid TV Van Nistelrooy made it plain that his intention is to remain at Los Blancos next season.
Looking happy and relaxed, Van Nistelrooy, who has remained with Real Madrid over the off-season to continue his rehabilitation, told the cameras that “running for the first time in seven months felt great” as he focuses all his energies into being fit for the start of the new La Liga season. Ruud then confessed that with Manuel Pellegrini now at Real’s helm, “we will just have to see how things evolve here.”
