In the general euphoria of Chelsea’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, not all broadcasters were perhaps as in tune and aware as they might have been.
Gary Neville produced his obligatory “goalgasm” for Didier Drogba’s equaliser whilst on BBC radio phone-in show 606, Alan Green was taken in hook line and sinker by a caller named Robin Cooper.
The spoof caller, who convinced Green that he had the match ball from the 2012 Champions League final and had refused to sell it, was in fact Robert Popper – a multi-award winning writer whose website is here.
Incredibly, Green failed to spot the fact he was being sold a giant lie and even asks the caller how he will get the ball back from Munich.
Even more amusing, is that the BBC used the spoof call in a news segment later on in the evening.
