It been a tough week at Ewood Park. First they lost one of the Premier League’s most consistent goalkeepers, with Brad Friedel moving to Aston Villa. Then they had to sit by and watch David Bentley forget them in an instant and watch him beam over his “dream move†to Tottenham.
In return, Rovers fans have been pacified with the year long loan signing of Chilean starlet Carlos Villanueva, and the large void between the sticks has been filled with the £3.5m purchase of Paul Robinson.
Unfortunately, Robbos’s first outing for Rovers in a midweek reserve match against the mighty Northwich Victoria was far from a debut to remember. Northwich took the lead just after the half hour thanks to a free-kick from Joel Byrom, and eye-witness footage captured how slowly and disjointedly Robinson moved across his line when trying to prepare for the shot. Rovers did end up winning the game 2-1 with goals from Paul Gallagher and an og from Matt Bailey.
As one Blackburn fan remarked, “There is a hard core of Rovers fans who want Robbo to do well but think he’s had it. Can’t believe we’ve lost Brad and Bentley in the one window.â€
