We predicted late on Tuesday night that the David Villa to Arsenal transfer rumour would run and run right up until the last moments of the January transfer window and this looks like being correct.
Quim Domènech Puigbó, a hugely respected Barcelona source told Spanish television last night that David Villa wants to join Arsenal in the final hours of the January transfer window.
He is considered a hugely reliable source having been the first journalist to break the news that Victor Valdes would not be renewing his contract at Barcelona last week.
According to the journalist, “Villa has told his inner circle that he would like to leave Barcelona and join Arsenal” but the Catalan giants are refusing to let him go during this window.
In positive news for Arsenal fans, Villa is, according to Quim Domènech Puigbó, willing to wait until June to join the north London side.
Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla, a good friend of Villa has reportedly told him to come and join him at the Emirates.
Not mentioned in the English press so far, but detailed today in Spain, is that Arsene Wenger spoke to David Villa after the Ballon d’Or ceremony earlier this month.
Wenger reportedly expressed his admiration for Villa as a player and told him he is willing to wait until June to sign him. This may well explain any Arsenal inactivity in this transfer window.
