It is fair to say Italian referee Daniele Doveri was not so well known before this evening, having only graduated to officiating Serie A matches last summer.
Doveri though brought a terrific amount of attention to himself at the very start of the Napoli-Novara encounter as after just 26 seconds, he awarded a free-kick… and dislocated his shoulder.
The 35-year-old referee signalled for a free-kick to Napoli in the middle of the pitch and appeared to pop his shoulder out of place in the process.
Cue commentators the world over, wondering if they had ever seen such a bizarre injury. The match was held up for 18 minutes and the first half eventually finished on an incredible 63 minutes.
Whilst the fourth official did warm up during the hold up, Doveri continued to see out the 90 minutes after physiotherapy and a pain killing injection.
Napoli eventually won the match 2-0.
