How does Marriner explain this without sounding racist?
— peter hall (@peterctid1965) March 22, 2014
It was as predictable as inevitable.
With referee Andre Marrinar wrongly sending off Kieran Gibbs instead of Oxlade-Chamberlain, it was only a matter of time before someone whipped out the race card, what with both players being mixed race.
Racism infers prejudicing an ethnic group as inferior to your own, so mistaking one person for another is not racist; it just means you are not very good at discerning certain people’s faces from another’s.
But that hasn’t stopped Twitter making the whole thing a bit more sinister that it really is.
Of course, some have made the suggestion in harmless enough jest, but dozens of genuine accusations of racism are now being made against Marriner.
The ref is a racist, he sent off Gibbs when Ox admitted he did a crime. He got confused all because they have similar skin colour
