Portuguese newspaper Record splashes with the news this morning that Manchester United scouts were once again in attendance at a Benfica match last night to watch Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay in the 2-0 win over Paços de Ferreira.
Manchester United look like doing no business on transfer deadline day after signing Wilfried Zaha for next season earlier in the January transfer window and the Premier League leaders appear to be planning for 2013/2014.
Garay returned to the Benfica first team on Wednesday night after a left shoulder problem but will have impressed the watching Manchester United scouts with a competent, relatively easy display.
Record add that Manchester United have made a formal bid for Garay that has been rejected but Sir Alex Ferguson has promised not to give up on the 26-year-old defender.
Besides Manchester United representatives, Chievo scouts were also spotted watching Benfica’s 2-0 win at Paços de Ferreira.
Footage of Ezequiel Garay’s goal v Celtic in the Champions League earlier this season is on the video below.
