Who would have thought an El Clasico would have brought focus on a refereeing decision and post-match recriminations?!
Real Madrid’s equaliser came from Raphael Varane, the 19-year-old French defender who was immense throughout and probably cemented his reputation as one of the up and coming youngsters in world football on Wednesday evening.
But Barcelona fans have pointed out that the officials made a grave error in the corner that was awarded in the lead up to the goal.
A typically forceful Cristiano Ronaldo run was stopped in its tracks by Carles Puyol and the video below shows that the Real Madrid man did get the last touch.
Puyol went mental with the linesman but although this decision should have gone Barcelona’s way it is easy to see why the officials didn’t spot the last touch.
And, Barcelona had a fair few chances to clear before the ball came in for Varane to equalise.
