New Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez sat down in front of the press in Australia on Friday, and the new Los Blancos boss was directly asked about Sergio Ramos’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ramos, 29, has been a regular hot topic in the press this summer, as rumours fly about that the Spanish centre-half is determined to leave Real after a breakdown in relations between the player and the upper management at the club.
In that regard, Manchester United have been regularly linked with a possible move for Ramos, amid talk that Madrid could sign David De Gea from Old Trafford.
For the record, when Man United boss Louis van Gaal was quizzed about links to Ramos this week, the Dutch boss ranted against the lies in the press during the summer.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea boss confirmed that Man United target Sergio Ramos is not up for sale, telling the crowd:
There is a lot of talk about his [Ramos’] situation. For me he is an enormous professional. He applies himself and does everything that the team and I ask.
The president has already commented that he is staying with the club.
I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas and his future. I see Sergio as an integral part of our team. He is a winner and that is what we need in our team.
For the record, Ramos’s pregnant girlfriend Pilar Rubio told the press this week that she’d move to Manchester if her partner was sold, while she also confirmed that the couple are learning English.
