Chelsea 5 – AC Milan 0 (Russian Railways Cup, August 3, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Chelsea raced into a three goal lead within eighteen minutes against AC Milan in the third place play-off of the Russian Railways Cup. Frank Lampard’s inswinging free-kick evaded everyone for the first then five minutes later Nicolas Anelka drilled home the second before he tapped home the third following some shocking goalkeeping from Kalac. (All three first half goals can be seen on this video.) After the break Anelka got his hat-trick goal, a free header in the box from Malouda’s cross. And the Frenchman capped off an incredible personal achievement netting his fourth, turning home yet another left wing cross from Malouda.
Juventus 0 – Hamburg 3 (Emirates Cup, August 3, 2008) (Longer highlights here.) Juventus fell behind to Hamburg by conceding a miserably defended goal, Jose Guerrero easily beat the offside trap and Chimenti’s poor indecision gifted the goal to the striker. (First half highlights here.) Ivica Olic added two goals in injury-time – the second came straight from the re-start, to complete an emphatic win. (Second half highlights here.)
Porto 4 – Cagliari 1 (Friendly, August 3, 2008) Porto were three-nil up at half-time against Cagliari thanks to goals from Lisandro Lopez, Ernesto Farias and then Lisandro Lopez again. Michele Fini pulled one back for the Italians. Hulk (GREAT NAME! His real name is Givanildo Vieira de Souza) scored the fourth.
