The reaction was immediate and despite Eden Hazard kicking a ball boy for all the world to see, there were plenty defending the Chelsea playmaker.
First and foremost the official Chelsea Twitter account defended Hazard with what may well go down as one of the craziest Teets ever seen from a football club.
As it stands, the Tweet has been deleted despite being Retweeted over 8,000 times in just under thirty minutes.
Like most things on the internet though, it was saved for posterity and can be seen below.
And it wasn’t just Chelsea defending their man. Current players Gareth Bale and Michael Owen launched a defence of Hazard almost immediately.
As did other “football personalities” such as Luke Shaw, Jason Euell and Alexi Lalas. See second picture below.
