There is little doubt that the non handshake between Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez overshadowed the Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool on Saturday lunch time.
In fact, it could be argued, that the Evra-Suarez saga, which began all the way back in mid-October, has been hugely influential in harming Liverpool’s chances in 2011/2012.
Of course, Kenny Dalglish could yet lead his side to double cup success and they still have a chance of a Champions League spot, but in terms of PR, it has been an absolute disaster for the Merseyside giants.
It is understandable why Dalglish and Liverpool would defend Suarez to the hilt, after all he is worth in excess of 30 million pounds in today’s transfer market, but you do wonder if all this could have been nipped in the bud with a simple and quick apology all the way back in October.
Instead, Suarez has turned himself into the number one villain in English football and Kenny Dalglish has continually appeared to be out of touch with popular opinion. With the club itself and its fans coming across with a chip on their shoulder in permanent defence of their player.
This has continued this evening, with Liverpool fans claiming that it was in fact Patrice Evra who refused to shake hands with Luis Suarez despite all evidence to the contrary.
The video appearing to show Evra refusing to shake hands with Suarez is here.
