Deportivo put themselves back in the running for a Champions League berth on Saturday night as the Galicians moved into fourth spot after beating Athletic Bilbao 3-1 at the Riazor. The win was tainted however for the hosts as their hugely-promising Brazilian full-back Felipe snapped his ankle while netting the opener.
Filipe, reportedly a target for Barcelona, gave Depor the lead in acrobatic style when he leapt brilliantly to divert Rodolfo Bodipo’s header into the net after 49 minutes. But the joy was short-lived, as the defender fell awkwardly as his hit the turf on his way back down, suffering a nasty twist to the ankle that left him in excruciating pain.
Unsurprisingly, the prognosis for Felipe is not good news, with the defender set to miss the rest of the season.
