Noise that Liverpool will sign Alexis Sanchez for €25m grows louder, but the sources seem dodgy

Several high profile South American websites are today reporting the news that Liverpool are closing in on the €25m signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona.

Leading Chilean outlet El Grafico are amongst the outlets who are promulgating this transfer rumour, however the story seems to crumble apart when it’s picked apart.

El Grafico take their lead from a report by Italian website Sport Mediaset on Thursday, who in turn took their headline from a little-known English website called Cheshire Today.

That original source farted the following this week:

Liverpool has made a £23 million move for Barcelona winger Alex Sanchez according to Spanish media. However, the Catalan club, who are prepared to sell, are asking close to £32 million, a figure Anfield believe is too high.

Unfortunately it’s unknown which “Spanish media” company is said to have started the fresh rumours, but what seems certain is that the rumour is all hot air. For now.

Finally, it’s worth noting that earlier in the week Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu told Marca:

[Sanchez is] not on the market. He has an active contrac. [He] is in our plans for next season. We’ve always needed him because he’s very highly valued as a player at this club.
