The West Brom-Spurs encounter was not the only high profile football match to feature a rather repulsive spitting incident.
Diego Costa was the recipient of the phlegm from Real Betis Antonio Amaya but the Atletico Madrid substitute did not seem to bothered post match.
Costa: “I don’t have a score to settle with anyone. What he did today, I have done before. These things happen. I am not going to take up an issue with him or cause him to get punished, what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.”
Amaya was not cautioned on the pitch and it doesn’t appear as if he will be charged by the Spanish football authorities.
The lack of any punishment for Diego Costa does not make it any less gruesome though.
