Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are about to tussle over yet another individual award.
The illustrious rivals have both been shortlisted for UEFA’s Best Player in Europe Award. Ronaldo is the lone Real Madrid representative, while Messi is in good company.
The Argentine forward’s incredible strike partners, Luis Suarez and Neymar, have also been shortlisted for the award after their amazing season.
Known as ‘MSN’, they scored a record 122 goals in all competitions as Barcelona rampaged their way to a treble, overpowering Juventus in the Champions League final.
Juventus were on the brink of their own treble before coming up against Barcelona.
In recognition of their stellar season, they have five players on the shortlist.
Gianluigi Buffon didn’t have the best final but fans couldn’t criticise the captain after inspirational performances that turned back the clock throughout the campaign.
Brilliant midfielders Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal were also nominated, while unsung hero Carlos Tevez also made the list.
The only Premier League player on the list was Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. The Belgian attacker got votes after playing a key role in the Blues’ title victory.
