Having already netted 24 times this season, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of England’s brightest young talents.
The 21 year old has already played 39 matches this season and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is clearly worried about his star man burning out.
It was widely expected that Harry Kane would take part in England’s U21 tournament in the Czech Republic this summer but Pochettino has other ideas.
Currently enjoying his first full season at White Hart Lane, the young Englishman has been the key man as Spurs push for a top 4 spot.
It is understood Kane is keen to play in the Under-21 tournament, which runs from June 17 to June 30, but, as reported in the Telegraph, Pochettino said: “We need to speak with the FA. You always support the national team and we’re happy if our player is in the national team or Under-21s. When we arrive at that moment, it’s important to analyse the season and his fitness levels.
“We’ll speak with the FA and Harry, and take in the season all together. We’re both in the process of developing our young talent.
“We need to be involved, the national team and Tottenham. For us, he is a very important player and we think he will be an important player for England. For that, it’s important to take a decision all together to provide the best position for Harry.”
The Argentine manager would like Kane to have a month long holiday, which would mean either missing the U21 tournament or pre-season.
“Maybe I’d prefer that Harry has a month’s holiday after the season to rest and recover his body and mind,” said Pochettino. “We need to arrive at a deal with the player and the FA. This is my opinion, but I realise we need to support the national team and to take the best decision for us all.
“We have experience of this at Southampton with Luke Shaw and it’s for that we need to use that experience to advise the FA and the player.
“This is our concern, he is our player. The FA need the player to play, but at the same time they are concerned about the development of their own young talent.”
Although it is a good chance for Harry Kane to experience a hotly contested international tournament, it may be better for him to get a much needed break.
