Having failed to produce his best for Portugal last week against China during international week, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to top form on Saturday night as he inspired Los Merengues to a narrow and crucial 3-2 victory over Sevilla that sent Manuel Pellegrini’s charges above Barcelona, into top spot, as the race for the title took a major twist.
Madrid had to do it the hard way after conceding an Alonso own goal early doors, and then a second to Dragutinovic at the start of the second half.
Ronaldo inspired a brilliant final half hour from Madrid, beginning when he pounced on a loose ball in the box to halve the deficit and give Los Blancos hope of a remarkable comeback. He was Real Madrid’s main threat throughout and always looked to create chances and was more unselfish than usual. All in all, Ronaldo put in a fantastic performance.

Over in Italy on Saturday night, leaders Inter Milan were left smiling ear-to-ear as second-place AC Milan were held by third-placed Roma to a goalless draw.
In a match devoid of goal action, Ronaldinho had one of his quieter performances in an overall brilliant season for the bucked-tooth wonder. The Brazilian maestro barely touched the ball for the first 30 minutes of the match, however when he finally did get some touches Dinho looked dangerous and able to conjure up a moment of magic.
After the interval, Ronaldinho stepped up his performance. He continually tore strips off of Roma full-back Cassetti, however much of his fancy footwork failed to hurt the Romans were it mattered in the final third. Ronaldinho then missed a glorious header 10 minutes from time which owuld have sown up the points for Leonardo’s men.
