There were mixed fortunes for both Arsenal and Manchester United this week in the Champions League as the Gunners, despite netting a crucial away goal, sunk to a 2-1 defeat in Porto, while Manchester United triumphed 3-2 in the San Siro against Milan.
Arsenal, and Lukasz Fabianski in particular, has a shocker in Portugal as the north Londoners backline in general had a tough night. Fabianski wasn’t the only offender, with Gael Clichy coming under the spotlight for the manner in which he was a sideshow for Porto’s opener while Sol Campbell was implicated in Porto’s second goal for his needless backpass to his keeper.
Of all the Arsenal defenders though, Bacary Sagna was probably the shining light. Professional and disciplined throughout, Sagna made not have been on top top form, but he rarely put a foot wring either. Neither Porto forward Hulk nor midfielder Maicon and Silvestre Varela got much change out of Sagna, who battled consistently throughout the match including pulling off some excellent crunching tackles.
On the downside, Sagna rarely ventured forward in the match as he was nullified in an attacking sense.

In MIlan on Tuesday night, Ronaldinho took the opportunity to show that his rave reviews in Serie A this season were not restricted simply to domestic matches only, as the bucked-tooth wonder put in a performance to suggest that he should be present at he World Cup later this year.
Having fallen of the pace in recent times under a black cloud of his party-boy lifestyle and ever-increasingly waist-line, Dinho now looks a player reborn who, while perhaps still not as the peak of Barcelona powers, is undoubtedly a player full of confidence.
After sweetly cracking home a volley after just two minutes, Ronaldinho ran rings around Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans with regularity when Milan had possession. His influence waned a little a the match progressed, but by that point Ronaldinho had already set himslef apart as the Rossoneri’s star performer.
