Marouane Fellaini will continue as Manchester United’s lone striker at PSV tonight, according to Dutch paper De Telegraaf.
With Wayne Rooney injured, Van Gaal was forced to start with Fellaini up front, a tactic he used to some effect last season.
Fellaini was deployed as a striker in the Champions League qualifier against Brugge, and scored a crucial late goal in the first leg, but looked like a fish out of water on Saturday, and many United fans seem to shaking their heads at the sight of the ungainly Belgian up front.
Van Gaal appears reluctant to play new signing Anthony Martial from the start, and despite scoring a sensational goal after springing from the bench to make his debut last Saturday, the 19-year-old looks set to be on the bench at PSV tonight.
De Telegraaf even go so far as to speculate on United’s starting XI:
De Gea, Shaw Blind Smalling Darmian; Carrick Schneiderlin; Young Mata Memphis; Fellaini
Marouane Fellaini keeps his place in the starting XI tonight, with Memphis Mata Young in behind & Schneiderlin in for Basti. [de telegraaf]
